Original caption: "Hughes Communications' Galaxy V, minus its solar panels, undergoes electronics testing at Hughes Aircraft Company's satellite manufacturing facility. In this room, called a near-field range, the satellite's antenna beam pattern is checked. Galaxy V, an upgraded version of the popular HS 376 model built by Hughes Space and Communications Group, replaces Westar V at 125 degrees West longitude. Galaxy V will provide distribution service for the leading names in cable television. Galaxy V features 24 16-watt transponders that provide coverage over the 48 contiguous states, Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean basin.
