DescriptionBuckingham Fountain, donated to Chicago by Kate Buckingham in 1927 is the largest fountain in the world. It is modeled after the Latona Fountain in Versailles. The fountain reaches 280 feet across the bottom of the pool. The pool contains 1, 500, 000 gallons of water and the133 water jets spray 14, 000 gallons of water into the air a minute. The central spout shoots water 135 feet in the air. Eight bronze sea horses spout water around the base of the pool. The fountain operates from May 30 until September 30 with a color display every evening between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
