McCaffery attended St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia with the help of the city's Hero Scholarship program for children of policemen and fireman killed or disabled in the line of duty. Now, a dozen years later, McCaffery is Mid-Atlantic Metro regional manager for Home Box Office, the national pay TV network, and he and HBO arranged for comedian Soupy Sales to m.c. a fund-raising benefit for the Hero Scholarship program.
